Established as a Government department in 1853. Converted from Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) to BTCL on 1 July 2008 by an ordinance. Presently, 100% share is owned by the Govt. It has countrywide telecom infrastructures of microwave, copper cable and optical fibre. It has international gateways through satellite and submarine cable. It provides fixed telephone services with 1 million line capacity at prerent and data services with internet.
